KOTA KINABALU, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The upgrading projects for the Kogopon II Papar Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Cinta Mata Tawau Water Dam, which are expected to be completed in 2026, are proof of the state government's continuous commitment to ensuring the basic needs of the people are met.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said other short- and long-term projects to solve the state's water supply issues have also been implemented, including the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric and Water Supply Scheme Project on the west coast of Sabah, which will have a capacity of 6,000 million litres per day (MLD) and is expected to be completed in 2030.
"Several other projects are also scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2029, including the Lahad Datu Rural Water Supply (BALB), the Semporna Reticulation System, a new intake project for the WTP in Limbahau, and a new WTP in Pulau Banggi (Banggi Island).
"Other projects that contribute to the increase in water supply capacity include the fully completed Telibong II WTP Phase II, the BALB Systems in Pitas and Tuaran which are now nearing completion, as well as the construction of five new storage tanks in Sandakan, which is expected to be completed in 2026," he said in a statement here today.
Hajiji said the government does not possess a 'magic wand' to complete projects in a day, but it is committed to ensuring every project is completed according to schedule to stabilise the water supply in Sabah.
He said while some have stated that the water supply problem can be solved within a year, this might refer to the projects currently being implemented.
