Team Must Use Three-Week Break To Fix Weaknesses And Restore Confidence - IFC Coach

BATU KAWAN, Oct 5 (Bernama) — Imigresen FC (IFC) Head Coach Yusri Che Lah wants his team to fully utilise the three-week break before their match against Sabah FC on October 26 to fix weaknesses and restore the team's confidence level.

Yusri said the defeat to Selangor FC in today's match was not the desired outcome but described it as an important lesson for a team currently in the formation phase.

"I feel this loss came at the right time for us to learn and improve. We faced a strong team that has been in the league for a long time, while IFC is still new and needs to exert maximum effort to compete.

"Furthermore, the team is also plagued by injury issues involving several players that need monitoring, but the level of confidence is also crucial and needs to be restored immediately," he said at a press conference after the match ended at the Batu Kawan State Stadium here today.

Commenting on the match against Selangor FC, the 49-year-old former national player said the goal scored by his team should have been a catalyst for a comeback, but that momentum was lost when the opponent managed to score soon after.

Yusri also admitted that the fragility of the defence was the reason the Mighty Tigers squad was easily breached, and IFC cannot continue to lose points, especially with a large goal difference. Therefore, they need to work harder by reviewing all their weaknesses and bouncing back to secure a win in the next match.

In the meantime, he hopes the long break can be used effectively to reinforce their spirit and enhance their understanding of the playing style he is implementing.

Meanwhile, Selangor FC Head Coach Christophe Gamel described today's win as a positive sign of the team's development but admitted that many aspects still need improvement ahead of the next match.

Gamel also praised the fighting spirit shown by the players despite playing in the hot weather and a demanding match schedule.

"Today, we felt that the mentality was there. Everyone wanted to give their best and provide a good game. Of course, it wasn't perfect but nobody is perfect, myself included.

"I will continue to work hard with the team to build on this and maintain a positive and above all, attacking mindset because I believe strongly in an attacking style of play," he said.

In the match, Selangor FC secured all three points with a comfortable 3-1 victory, while IFC is still struggling to find their first win after six matches, sitting at the bottom of the league table.
