Sarawak Actively Transforming Economy For Well-Being Of Its People - Abang Johari

SIMUNJAN, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government is actively implementing various economic transformations that positively impact the lives of the people, both in urban and rural areas, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He added that the construction of the coastal road connecting Tanjung Datu to Lawas would be able to raise the people's income, in addition to strengthening the foundation of development in various sectors, including agriculture, social services and infrastructure.

"But, we are aware that many rivers need to be crossed between one area and another, meaning more bridges are needed, and building bridges involves very high costs.

"The Gedong and Simunjan areas are also enjoying the benefits from this development, as they have close ties in terms of history and administration,” he said in his speech at the Simunjan Festival here today.

Abang Johari said the construction of a four-lane road from Serian up to Simunjan, via Gedong and Samarahan, will also be carried out, and it will be extended until Tanjung Embang, the site of Sarawak's new airport.

"We will also develop a gas terminal as part of Sarawak's new economic development plan. All these will open up employment opportunities and boost the local economy,” he said.

He added that the Sarawak government will also build a river embankment in Simunjan, which will not only prevent erosion but will also be developed to resemble the riverbank of Kuching city, with an allocation of over RM100 million that has been approved for the project, which is currently in the design stage.
