KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur (SMTKL) created history today as Malaysia’s first secondary school to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory, in conjunction with its centenary celebrations.
The Prime Minister’s wife and Bandar Tun Razak MP, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the laboratory will serve as a reference model for innovation-, project-, and problem-based learning, while acting as a catalyst for the new future of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country.
“This initiative will not only serve as a reference model for technical secondary schools and vocational colleges, but also create opportunities to implement it in national secondary schools, strengthening the TVET ecosystem from an early stage.
“With knowledge, technology, and character, Insya-Allah, our students can face the challenges of the future,” she said at the launch of the school’s 100th anniversary celebrations here.
She said the establishment of the AI laboratory also involves nearby secondary schools as ‘feeder schools,’ ensuring that students’ technical talents are nurtured from an early stage.
Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah also announced the school’s collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to introduce a ‘KOSEN-oriented’ (college of technology) approach, implemented for the first time at the technical secondary school level in Malaysia.
The approach will focus on hands-on, experiential learning, industry collaboration, and fostering creativity.
SMTKL, the oldest technical secondary school in Malaysia, also received the Gold Award for Best Digital Education (Secondary School Category) at the Digital Utilisation and Technology Awards (DUTA) 2024, held in July.
