Bernama Staff Encouraged To Celebrate Each Other's Festivities To Strengthen Bond

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff from diverse backgrounds and beliefs have been encouraged to celebrate each other’s festive celebrations to strengthen understanding and mutual respect.

Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai said it does not have to be on a grand scale because hosting small gatherings would suffice and be more meaningful.

“…sometimes with our busy work schedules, we don’t have the opportunity to eat together and get to know each other.

“So, in events like this, we have the chance to get together, and we can even invite those from other media organisations to get to know Bernama employees,” he said at the Bernama luncheon held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration today.

About 70 staff members, including those from management, attended the gathering, which was held in cooperation with Berjaya Times Square Hotel.

Also present were deputy chief editor (News Service) D. Arul Rajoo, Bernama TV head Nor Hamzeela Md Hambali, and Bernama former editor-in-chief and Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) president Datuk Yong Soo Heong.

Wong described the cooperation with Berjaya Times Square Hotel as crucial because it could help both parties identify areas of mutual interest, including news coverage in line with Bernama’s role as a government agency in delivering reliable information to the public.

Meanwhile, Berjaya Times Square Hotel business development and marketing director Tricia Loh said they were happy and proud to assist Bernama in hosting the gathering.

“Bernama is always the prominent media in Malaysia, so we feel honoured and privileged to partner with them, and for (your) information, this collaboration will continue, and we can anticipate something bigger this year,” she said.
