KOTA KINABALU, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Bank Rakyat today presented over RM1.7 million in zakat contribution to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) during a courtesy visit to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu.
The delegation was led by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) Datuk Ewon Benedick, together with Bank Rakyat's chief executive officer, Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff, senior officers and MUIS representatives.
Ewon said the contribution had increased from RM1.3 million last year, and he expressed confidence that it would continue to grow in the coming years in line with Bank Rakyat's various plans in Sabah.
“At the same time, I encourage the people of Sabah to utilise Bank Rakyat’s services, as part of its profits are reinvested into the community through zakat and other forms of assistance,” he said in a statement.
Ewon also thanked Tun Musa for his continued support of KUSKOP and its agencies in promoting entrepreneurship and cooperatives in Sabah.
He added that Bank Rakyat, as a financing agency under the ministry, plays a vital role in driving economic growth through entrepreneurship and cooperatives across the country.
