Malaysia Equal Record With 15 Golds At SEA Deaf Games, Set Sights On New Milestone

JAKARTA, Aug 23 (Bernama) – The Malaysian contingent delivered another impressive performance on the second day of the SEA Deaf Games 2025, raking in nine gold medals to surge to a total of 15 golds, equalling their overall Games-winning haul from the inaugural edition in Kuala Lumpur three years ago.

With several events still ongoing, they are now poised to shatter the previous record and set a new benchmark.

The national athletics squad completed a historic campaign by producing an unprecedented clean sweep of all 10 gold medals, far surpassing their initial target of six golds.

Azlan Kuste, fresh from his 800m triumph, displayed incredible endurance to complete a golden double, conquering the men’s 1,500m in a time of 4:27.03s.

Similarly, Muhammad Shahrul Azmer Azman added the men’s 200m title (22.63s) to his 400m gold, while Nur Andrina proved her sprinting dominance by blazing to victory in the women’s 200m (27.63s) for her second gold of the Games.

The men’s quartet on the track was unstoppable as Malaysia powered to victory in the men’s 4x400m relay with a time of 3:3416s.

Adding to the day two glory today was Malaysian flag bearer, Zaiman Megat Abu, who soared to a gold medal-winning leap of 6.82 metres in the Long Jump event, with teammate Hazrul Shah Hamri securing the silver with a jump of 6.58m, ensuring another one-two finish for the contingent.

The gold rush extended beyond the track as Malaysia struck twice more at the tenpin bowling arena at Jaya Ancol Bowling Centre, with Ho Choon Seng-Mohammad Firdaus clinching gold in the men’s doubles, while Siong Mui Hong-Siw Sing He triumphed in the women’s doubles event.

It was also a day to remember for the chess squad, with Loo Pin Xie claiming gold in the men’s standard category, and Ainur Ashikin Jupineh emerging triumphant in the women’s standard category.

The commanding performance sees Malaysia sitting firmly at the top of the medal standings, underscoring the team's determination to defend the overall title with conviction. 

With events in futsal, table tennis and badminton still in play, the contingent is firmly on track to surpass the 16-gold target and create a new, historic chapter for Malaysia.
