SEA Deaf Games: Malaysia Sweep All 10 Golds In Athletics

JAKARTA, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia reigned supreme on the track as the national athletics contingent ended the SEA Deaf Games 2025 here with a clean sweep of 10 gold medals, in addition to eight silvers and two bronzes.

The extraordinary success not only crowned Malaysia as the athletics powerhouse for the Southeast Asian deaf community, but also stirred national pride as the Jalur Gemilang continued to fly high in Indonesia.

Every step and sprint by the national athletes was translated into a clear message – Malaysia did not come just to compete but to dominate and leave a mark for the next edition.

National head coach Mohd Amiludin Mohd Amin expressed gratitude after the contingent surpassed the initial target of six gold medals.

“In fact, all the teams were great. For example, if we take other teams such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos – they had strong squads.

“But we still managed to overcome them, and I think they themselves did not expect us to beat them, especially Indonesia, because their runners were really strong,” he told reporters here today.

Commenting on the overall performance of the athletes, who also set several Games records, Mohd Amiludin said most of his charges delivered impressive results, although there was still room for improvement ahead of the Deaflympics in Tokyo this November.

“After this, I will give them a short rest and then continue training for the final preparation ahead of the Deaflympics. The targets at the Deaflympics are twofold – first, to improve their personal best times, and second, to qualify for the finals of the events Malaysia competes in,” he said.

Five of the 10 gold medals were contributed by Azlan Kuste (men’s 800m), Muhammad Shahrul Azmer Azman (men’s 400m), Muhammad Zamir Azman (men’s 100m), Nur Andrina Zainuddin (women’s 100m), and the men’s 4x100m relay team, in events which took place yesterday.

On the final day today, another five golds were delivered by Azlan Kuste (men’s 1,500m), Muhammad Shahrul Azmer Azman (men’s 200m), Nur Andrina Zainuddin (women’s 200m), the men’s 4x400m relay team, and Zaiman Megat Abu (long jump).
