KOTA BHARU, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (JKR) has allocated RM2.5 million to upgrade the concrete drainage system in Mukim Kampung Kota, Salor, to resolve stagnant floodwater issues that have persisted for over two decades, said state JKR director Nik Soh Yaakob.

“The first phase involves an allocation of RM772,900 under the MADANI Adopted Village programme, which covers the upgrading of 700 metres of concrete drains from Lorong Pok San to Wakaf Sena.

“Work on the first phase began in mid-April and is expected to be completed by mid-July,” he told reporters after inspecting the progress of monsoon drain installation works in Kampung Kota, Salor, today.

Nik Soh added that RM1.7 million has been allocated for the second phase, which is scheduled to commence once the first phase is fully completed.

The project, he said, will benefit more than 1,000 residents and road users, as the area serves as a key access route to Kota Bharu.

He added that six to seven drainage upgrade projects are either in progress or planned across Kelantan this year, each with an estimated cost of between RM1 million and RM1.5 million, with all of them expected to be completed before the monsoon season.
