KAPIT, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (PWD) has been urged to intensify the use of modern technologies, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital twinning, in the implementation of major projects such as the Pan Borneo Highway and rural road construction.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the use of such technology is important to ensure the quality, efficiency and cost of implementation are at optimum levels.
“This technology is no longer an option, but rather a necessity. I call on the Sarawak Public Works Department and all relevant agencies to establish close cooperation with the Ministry of Works to implement the pilot project in Kapit,” he said at the 2025 Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak event here last night.
The event, opened by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Law and Custom II) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Sarawak PWD Director Cassidy Morris
Nanta, who is Kapit Member of Parliament, emphasised that the implementation of infrastructure projects should be carried out in an integrated and inclusive manner involving all stakeholders, including local authorities, communities and contractors.
“I call on all parties to work together, avoid project delays, and resolve any technical issues promptly,” he said.
The Works Ministry, he said, remains committed to expanding both the federal and state road networks, while ensuring that maintenance work is carried out efficiently and delivers meaningful impact.
“We will manage funds transparently and comprehensively for the long-term benefits of the rural people, especially in Kapit and Sarawak,” he added
