Siti Hasmah's Contributions Will Be Remembered With Continued Efforts To Help Marginalised Groups  - ABIM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Efforts to assist marginalised groups should continue as the best way to honour the contributions of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, said the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM).

ABIM president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said that these groups include mothers and children who need care, families far from healthcare services, and women who need opportunities to build a better life.

"As one of the earliest Malay female doctors, the late Allahyarhamah pioneered healthcare services for mothers, children and families in rural areas. She understood that the difficulty in accessing treatment was not just a matter of awareness; there were families facing distance, lack of transportation and financial constraints.

"She also helped train midwives and build trust between healthcare workers and the community. To her, effective service begins with listening and understanding the lives of those being helped," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Fahmi said that the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's concern subsequently extended to the education and economic empowerment of rural women.

He said she also left an example for the younger generation that positions provide opportunities to serve, but contributions are built through continuous presence with the community.

"Her life's journey exemplified the dignity of a Malay Muslim woman who led through knowledge, diligence and tangible work," he said, also extending his condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family on her demise.
