KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has conveyed his condolences to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the passing of his elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim, during a telephone conversation between the two leaders today.
Anwar said Erdogan also conveyed his condolences to former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family on the passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
"His thoughts and prayers are very meaningful to us during this difficult time,” Anwar said in a post on X today.
The Prime Minister said he and Erdogan exchanged views on several current issues of mutual interest, but did not elaborate on the matters discussed.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute yesterday. She was 100.
Her remains were laid to rest at Pusara Negara, Precinct 20, Putrajaya at 6.20 pm today with a State Funeral ceremony.
Idrus, 83, died in his sleep at his residence at 6.10 pm on Thursday (Sept 24). He was buried at the Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery the following day.
Idrus was a former headmaster and is survived by his wife, four children and 10 grandchildren.
