Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's Demise, A Big Loss To Nation, Family - Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the passing of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali as a profound loss for the nation and, in particular, for her family.

He noted that for decades, the public witnessed her role as the life partner of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sharing their lives, raising a family, and standing by the former Prime Minister as he shouldered the responsibility of serving the nation.

Ahmad Zahid said Tun Dr Siti Hasmah is also remembered for her service as a doctor and her concern for the well-being of the community, indeed, her personality, gentleness, humility, and steadfastness throughout her life made her a beloved figure and a role model for Malaysians.

“This morning, the nation mourns the passing of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, a highly respected woman who held a special place in the hearts of Malaysians.

“It is difficult to imagine the emptiness left by the loss of someone who has been by one's side for so long,” he said in a Facebook post today.

 Ahmad Zahid and his family also extended their condolences to Dr Mahathir and the entire family, praying that they be granted the strength and fortitude to face this loss.

He also prayed that Allah SWT would forgive the deceased, accept her good deeds, and place her soul among the righteous.

Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning at the age of 100, leaving behind seven children.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said throughout her life, Dr Siti Hasmah made immense contributions not only as the country's former First Lady but also in the fields of health, social welfare, education, and women and family development.

He described Dr Siti Hasmah’s passing as a profound loss, not just for her family and friends, but for all Malaysians and the nation.

“Her compassion, humility, and stature will always be remembered as part of the nation's history and its journey of development.

“Indeed, the country has lost a highly respected and beloved female figure,” he said in a Facebook post.

Fadillah also extended his condolences to Dr Mahathir and the entire family, praying that they be granted strength, fortitude, and patience in coping with this loss.
