SUKIPT 2026: Danish Claimed 200M Gold In New SUKIPT Record But Missed Out On Own National Record

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- National sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee was just 0.05 seconds away from breaking his own national record (20.73s) as he dominated the 200-meter (m) event at the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Games (SUKIPT) today.

Competing at the UM Arena here today, the 19-year-old Johor-born athlete, representing the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), clocked a time of 20.77s which shattered the previous games record of 21.11s set by Aravinn Thevarr in the 2016 edition, and also marked his best performance of the season.

This is the second gold medal for the young athlete, following his victory in the 100m event yesterday, which also set his previous season-best time.

“So far, I am extremely grateful because I have managed to break my season best.

“Previously at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), I recorded 20.85s, and here at SUKIPT, I improved my season best with a time of 20.77s,” he said when met after the race.

The silver medal in the event went to Danish Iftikhar’s teammate, Aiman Ikhwan Yahya, with a time of 21.39s, while Muhammad Haziq Mohammad Akhir claimed the bronze with 21.43s.

Meanwhile, in the women's category, UPSI continued its dominance in the 200m sprint as its representative, Nurul Wardatul Huwaida Mohd Hamka, emerged as the champion with a time of 24.76s.

The silver was won by Universiti Putra Malaysia representative Nurul Afrina Batrisyia Mohamad Rizal with 25.02s, followed by Tay Shuen Min with a time of 25.09s.

“I didn't expect to win because I felt my body wasn't quite ready for the 200m, having frequently participated in relays. So, I am very satisfied with today's timing as I managed to set a new season best,” she said.
