Johor's Danish Iftikhar Completes Sprint Treble, Shatters SUKMA 200m Record

SERDANG, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Johor sprinter Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee cemented his status as Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026's Sprint King after breaking the meet record in the men's 200 metres (m) event at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Stadium here today.

After winning gold in the 100m and 4x100m, the 19-year-old completed a hat-trick with a time of 20.85 seconds (s), erasing the meet record of 21.01s set by Selangor's Muhammad Aqil Yasmin at the 2018 edition in Perak.

The silver medal went to Kedah sprinter Muhammad Umaira Subri with a time of 21.23s, while the bronze was won by fellow Johor sprinter Muhamad Airiel Iskandar Rusli with 21.35s.

"After all the races from the first day of SUKMA until today - Alhamdulillah - that is all I can say, because I managed to get through all the events, namely the 100m, 4x100m and 200m," he said when met after the race.

The national 200m record holder, with a personal best of 20.73s, however, admitted there was still much room for improvement to achieve his target of breaking his own national record.

"I believe I can improve on my personal best, which is also the national record," he said.

Meanwhile, the women's 200m saw Terengganu athlete Izzatul Musfirah Ahmad Kamal Azira also live up to expectations by winning gold after clocking 24.42s.

Selangor's Lim Mei Yin won silver with a time of 24.86s, while fellow Terengganu representative Nor Aliya Najihah Muda claimed bronze in 25.39s.

The win also made up for Izzatul Musfirah's disappointment after having to settle for silver in the women's 4x100m event yesterday.
