MOSCOW, June 7 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Nearly 60 per cent of adults in the UK do not regret leaving the European Union and do not want greater access to the EU's single market if it would result in Brussels taking control of the country's legislation, according to a study conducted by YouGov and commissioned by the advocacy group Britain Unbound, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
Respondents were asked: "To what extent would you be willing or unwilling to accept less power for the UK over laws and rules that apply here in return for the UK to be granted greater access to the EU’s Single Market?" Regardless of education level, gender, and region, the majority of respondents said they would not be willing to give up their legislative powers in exchange for returning to the EU single market.
According to the research, approximately 61 per cent of British men and 57 per cent of women do not regret Brexit. The share of those willing to sacrifice sovereignty for the sake of a common European market is the largest in London (34 per cent).
The survey was conducted from May 25 to 26 among 2,100 people.
