ISTANBUL, Oct 2 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The Global Sumud Flotilla announced on Wednesday that live broadcasts were cut off from most of its ships as Israeli naval forces surrounded the vessels sailing towards Gaza to challenge the blockade, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
Organisers said the interception occurred as Israeli warships blocked communications and moved to halt the convoy.
No immediate details were available regarding possible detentions or the fate of the ships.
Earlier, more than 20 Israeli boats were spotted approaching the international aid flotilla, the International Committee to Break the Siege of Gaza said on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for the Global Sumud Flotilla said the Israeli boats were moving to impose a naval blockade on the convoy.
The Israeli vessels were detected approximately three nautical miles away from the flotilla, the group said in a statement.
A state of emergency was declared across the vessels of the global mission.
The flotilla, carrying mainly humanitarian aid and medical supplies, set sail several days ago in a bid to break the Israeli blockade.
