INDONESIA

 

1.PRABOWO TO ATTEND BRICS SUMMIT DESPITE XI JINPING, PUTIN’S ABSENCE -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesia announced Monday that President Prabowo Subianto would fly to Rio de Janeiro for the upcoming BRICS Summit despite the possible absence of Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping. This would mark Prabowo’s first appearance at the forum since Jakarta officially became part of BRICS in January.

 

2.PARTIES CAUTIOUS OF COURT’S SPLIT-ELECTIONS RULING -- THE JAKARTA POST

Political parties have responded cautiously to the Constitutional Court’s recent decision to split national and regional elections starting in 2029, citing rising campaign costs and potential disruption to governance as major concerns. While experts have generally praised the ruling for curbing elite dominance and boosting democratic accountability, lawmakers are more focused on its administrative and political impact.

1.LIFE SKILLS, GENDER EQUALITY EDUCATION -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

The Ministry of Education and Sports is partnering with the charitable organisation Room to Read to implement life skills education and promote gender equality in secondary schools. The objective is to equip young people with the right mindset and skills.

 

2.FLOODS DESTROY VILLAGES, INFRASTRUCTURE -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Several districts have suffered from torrential rain that destroyed houses, farmland, livestock, schools and bridges. About 90 hectares of farmland and livestock in 17 villages in the Nguen district were affected. In Khob district, 1,300 households in 10 villages were affected.

 

MYANMAR

 

1.FERTILISER, PESTICIDE IMPORTS FOR MONSOON SEASON -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Authorities have granted importation licences to procure 670,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 11,000 metric tonnes of pesticide to support monsoon paddy season cultivation. Importers are advised not to manipulate the prices by overstocking these products.

 

2.CREATING SKILLED RICE PRODUCTION WORKERS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Myanmar Rice Federation will jointly offer a Rice Processing Technology Course to produce skilled workers for the rice production sector. The free-of-charge course will create job opportunities in rice mills and factories. 

 

SINGAPORE

 

1.NSMAN, 30, DIES IN HOSPITAL AFTER COLLAPSING OUTSIDE MAJU CAMP -- THE STRAITS TIMES

An operationally ready national serviceman (NSman) died after collapsing outside Maju Camp on the evening of June 30, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement on July 1.

A 30-year-old operationally ready national serviceman died after collapsing outside Maju Camp on Monday (Jun 30). 

 

THAILAND

 

1. THAI TRAVELLERS STILL REQUIRE SCHENGEN VISAS, SAYS FOREIGN MINISTRY -- THE NATION

Thai nationals are still required to obtain a Schengen visa when travelling to Europe, as Thailand is not currently part of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), the Foreign Ministry has clarified.

 

2. BANGKOK BUILDING COLLAPSE TIED TO CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN FLAWS -- BANGKOK POST

Thai investigators concluded that flaws in the design and construction methods caused the collapse of a partially built Bangkok building that killed at least 89 people during the March 28 earthquake, according to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

 

VIETNAM

 

1.NEW TAX LAWS EFFECTIVE FROM JULY 1 -- VIETNAM NEWS 

Vietnam will enforce new tax laws effective July 1 which will improve efficiency and transparency in the country’s tax system. It covers value-added tax, corporate income, personal income, and special consumption tax. 

 

2.FRESH RULES ON CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a new circular on the issuance of a certificate of origin effective July 1. Only two entities can issue the certificates —  the Agency of Foreign Trade and agencies authorised by provincial and municipal people’s committees.
