INDONESIA

1. ISLANDERS LOSE GROUND AS ISLETS PUT ON SALE -- THE JAKARTA POST

Islander communities are facing shrinking living space as more small islands across the country fall into private hands, an issue that has gained renewed attention following reports of islands being sold, raising concerns over land rights in outlying island regions.

 

2. INDONESIA TO LEGALISE MARGINAL OIL WELLS WITH 20,000 BPD POTENTIAL -- JAKARTA POST

The Indonesian government will soon issue a regulation that legalises the operation of marginal conventional oil wells by non-corporate entities. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Saturday that these so-called stripper wells collectively have the potential to produce up to 20,000 barrels per day nationwide.

1. LAOS-RUSSIA TO GROW BILATERAL TRADE -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Laos and Russia marked 65 years of diplomatic ties by pledging to expand trade, investment, energy, education, defence, culture and tourism sectors. Bilateral trade reached about RM100 million (US$24 million) last year.

 

 2. JOINT MEKONG RIVER SECURITY TO CURB CRIMES -- VIENTIANE TIMES

China, Laos and Myanmar conducted a joint Mekong River patrol last week to stem rising drug trafficking and human smuggling activities in the border regions. The tripartite security exercise marked the 154th Joint Patrol and Cooperation Law alliance.

 

MYANMAR

1. YANGON’S JUNE INVESTMENTS WORTH RM34 MILLION -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Eight new businesses were approved in June and it will help create over 6,500 jobs in Yangon. The Yangon Region Investment Committee said that RM34 million (US$8 million) was invested. The investments focus on the manufacturing of industrial and garment products.

 

2. GRADING OF STEEL FOR CONSTRUCTION SECTOR -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The government will introduce a classification of steel to ensure quality products are imported or produced locally for the construction sector. Myanmar produces 200,000 metric tonnes iron and steel annually and imports 800,000 metric tonnes.

1. INTERCEPTED IRANIAN COMMUNICATIONS DOWNPLAY DAMAGE FROM US ATTACK: REPORT -- THE STRAITS TIMES/REUTERS

Intercepted Iranian communications downplayed the extent of damage caused by US strikes on Iran’s nuclear programme, the Washington Post reported on June 29, citing four people familiar with classified intelligence circulating within the US government.

 

2. IRAN VOICES 'SERIOUS DOUBTS' OVER ISRAEL COMMITMENT TO CEASEFIRE -- CNA/AFP

Iran warned Sunday (Jun 29) that it had little faith in Israel's commitment to a fragile ceasefire that ended the most intense and destructive confrontation between the two foes to date.

 

THAILAND

1. PHEU THAI REVIVES 99-YEAR LEASEHOLD LAW AS INTERIOR MINISTRY SHIFT NEARS -- THE NATION

The Pheu Thai-led government is moving to revive a stalled draft law allowing long-term land leases of up to 99 years, with the Interior Ministry set to reassess its urgency.

 

2. THAILAND RELAXES SOME CAMBODIAN BORDER CONTROLS TO HELP STRANDED PEOPLE, VEHICLES -- BANGKOK POST

The Burapa Task Force, which supervises border areas with Cambodia in Sa Kaeo province, has relaxed its border controls to help repatriate stranded Cambodians and vehicles from both Thailand and Cambodia.

 

VIETNAM

1. TELEMEDICINE FOR REMOTE COMMUNITIES -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Health Ministry is introducing telemedicine to reach communities in remote areas. The ministry’s project “Telehealth to Improve Access to Healthcare Services for Disadvantaged Groups in Vietnam” targets 100 remote and mountainous provinces.

 

2. VIETRAVEL SPREADS WINGS WITH NEW FLEET -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietravel Airlines acquired its first Airbus A321 in Hanoi on Saturday and will commence operations in July. Two Airbus A320s are scheduled to join the carrier’s fleet in July. Vietravel will now increase flight frequency to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
