BATU PAHAT, June 6 (Bernama) -- The federal and state governments need to work together to build strong stability in facing future economic challenges for the benefit of the people, Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said.
He said the political instability that occurred in the country after the 2018 general election should serve as a lesson to all parties, including voters, so that a similar situation does not recur.
According to him, all parties should give sufficient space to governments, whether at the state or federal level, to complete their respective terms of administration in order to provide the best possible service.
“For the state election (Johor), we need to ensure that there is cooperation between the state and federal governments. At the federal level, we must allow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to complete his mandate,” he said when speaking at the launch of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Johor Election Machinery at Kim’s Park Business Center here today.
Meanwhile, Johor PH chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said voters, particularly in the state, appear to be becoming more mature in making political choices and are prioritising government stability to ensure the well-being of the people.
Aminolhuda, who is also Johor Amanah chairman, described the upcoming state election as the true test, unlike the previous state election, which recorded a low voter turnout of only about 55 per cent.
According to him, the subdued atmosphere at that time was due to public concern over the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic but with difference circumstances now, voters no longer need to fear going out to fulfill their civic responsibility.
“Previously (in the 2022 state election), only 55 per cent turned out to vote. I am confident that in the next state election more people will come out to vote and will make wise choices for their own well-being because they know who has helped them through various public-oriented programs,” he said.
The 2022 election saw Barisan Nasional successfully forming the state government with a two-thirds majority after winning 40 of the 56 state seats, while Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional secured three seats, and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) won one seat.
