KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- The incident that occurred during the recent Sepak Takraw World Cup team regu final between Malaysia and Thailand will be addressed through established processes, according to the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF).

In a statement jointly issued with the Takraw Association of Thailand (TAT) today, ISTAF said the incident, which led to Malaysia being awarded the match 2-1, should be reviewed under the ISTAF Constitution, the Laws of the Game, Competition Regulations and Disciplinary Procedures.

ISTAF and TAT also acknowledged the extensive discussions, comments, opinions and media reports relating to the incident at the Titiwangsa Stadium here.

ISTAF secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Kader reiterated the federation’s commitment to ensuring that all matters are reviewed independently.

He said the federation remains committed to protecting the integrity of the sport, safeguarding the interests of all member associations and ensuring that every party is afforded a fair opportunity to be heard.

TAT president Thana Chaiprasit reaffirmed the association’s respect for ISTAF’s role as the international governing body of sepak takraw and recognised its authority to review and determine matters arising from competitions sanctioned by the federation.

He also expressed confidence in the independence, professionalism and integrity of the ISTAF review process.

“TAT is confident that all relevant facts, reports, evidence and representations will be considered in accordance with the principles of natural justice before any determination is made,” he said.

Both organisations also called on stakeholders, officials, athletes, supporters and members of the media to refrain from speculation, assumptions or premature conclusions while the review process remains ongoing.

To further strengthen transparency, accountability and confidence in the process, Abdul Halim will table the matter before the ISTAF Executive Committee at its meeting today.

Thailand abandoned the final after disputing the umpire’s decision during the deciding third regu of the match.
