MyNIISe To Be Implemented In Phases From Early Q2 - Saifuddin

CYBERJAYA, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- The National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) will be rolled out in phases at the country’s entry points beginning early in the second quarter of this year, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said the immediate priority is to ensure the rollout proceeds smoothly without affecting traveller comfort or disrupting operations at entry points.

He said the system must be seamless, particularly in terms of public mobility, as the Home Ministry (KDN) decisions are based on data. Out of every 100 tourists entering the country, 75 per cent pass through KLIA Terminal 1 and 2, as well as the Johor Causeway.

“Our focus is not merely on speed, but on an orderly system transition that does not disrupt the travel experience. This is to ensure tourists no longer face inconvenience,” he said.

Saifuddin was speaking at a luncheon with the media here today, which was also attended by Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

MyNIISe will replace the Malaysian Immigration Integrated Management System (MyIMMs), which has been in use for over 20 years and is no longer adequate to address current global security challenges, high passenger volumes and modern data integration requirements.

He said the implementation of MyBorderPass would not be rendered redundant once MyNIISe is fully operational, as its functions, findings and lessons learned would be integrated into the new system.

Addressing concerns over immigration data security and the risk of personal data exposure, Saifuddin stressed that the ongoing system transition does not involve any data transfer or sharing that could compromise the integrity of user information.

He said user data remains within a legitimate and protected ecosystem, even though three legacy service providers are currently operating concurrently at certain entry points.

According to him, the existing transition systems, including MyBorderPass and other entry modules, require only two basic elements from users, namely identity registration via MyDigital ID or eKYC methods, and verification of a valid passport.

“The new system will use facial recognition, iris scanning and passport verification. As such, issues of immigration data theft or leakage do not arise, as the data structure does not intersect with legacy vendors,” he said.

He explained that the legacy service providers did not develop the core immigration infrastructure but merely supplied temporary support systems.

On system stability and contingency planning, Saifuddin said KDN has established a dedicated team that meets daily to monitor all components of the system migration.

The team is responsible for reviewing technical checklists, identifying potential disruptions, conducting troubleshooting and ensuring that major entry points continue to operate without interruption.

“As this transition phase begins in the second quarter, our technical team has already been meeting daily since January.

“Any issue, whether system-related, infrastructure-related or congestion-related, is escalated immediately for mitigation action,” he said, adding that MyNIISe is KDN’s flagship project in terms of entry point reform.
