BUKIT MERTAJAM, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The release of all Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers, who were detained by Israeli forces, signifies a diplomatic triumph for Malaysia under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, the success reflected the government’s strong diplomatic capability in ensuring the safety of Malaysians participating in international humanitarian missions.
“I would like to thank the Prime Minister, as we have been informed that all our activists will be brought back from Istanbul, Turkiye, to Kuala Lumpur.
“Insya-Allah, we will bring them home and re-plan how to carry this humanitarian message and mission forward, particularly to continue providing support to the people of Gaza,” the Wanita PKR chief told reporters after officiating the Anti-Bullying Tour Campaign at Yayasan Aman, Penanti here today.
Last Thursday, 23 Malaysian activists participating in the GSF mission were detained by Israeli forces after their vessels were intercepted in the R3 Red Zone waters of the Mediterranean Sea, before being taken to the port of Ashdod, Israel.
Yesterday, Anwar said all 23 Malaysians would be flown from Israel to Istanbul on a special flight arranged by Turkiye.
The GSF mission, which involved more than 500 activists from 44 countries, set sail for Gaza as a symbol of solidarity and an effort to break the Israeli blockade while delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
