KOTA KINABALU, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) and Yayasan Petronas’ contributions, totalling RM980,000 to date, are proof of the concern of the private sector, government-linked companies (GLCs), and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who are working together with the state government to care for the welfare of the people.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government greatly appreciates the energy company's contributions, which demonstrate a high level of commitment to ensure the well-being of the people of Sabah continues to be protected, especially during flood disasters.

“The state government hopes more corporate companies will come forward to help because such strong support can ensure aid reaches those in need quickly and effectively," he said.

He said this in a statement after witnessing the handover of disaster relief contributions by PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office general manager Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab to the State Secretary cum State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Seri Safar Untong at Menara Kinabalu here today.

Hajiji said the support from the private sector, GLCs, and NGOs is important in complementing the government's efforts to assist flood victims in Sabah.

In the same statement, Siti Ayu said the initiative was part of PETRONAS' ongoing commitment to support disaster preparedness and relief in Sabah.

Additionally, it is to ensure that aid reaches those in need on time, and the initiative is proactively planned each year to support preparedness efforts for the flood season.

She added that PETRONAS also handed over to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) food baskets as well as contribution cards worth RM10,000 for the purchase of fuel for relief operations.
