KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative, which sets petrol price at 1.99 per litre with a 300-litre monthly eligibility limit, is seen as being able to ease the rising cost of living, thus providing relief to fishermen.

National Fishermen's Association of Malaysia (NEKMAT) chairman Abdul Hamid Bahari described the implementation of BUDI95 as a proactive step that reflected the continuous commitment and concern of the MADANI Government in ensuring the welfare and livelihood of about 85,000 of its members nationwide.

"NEKMAT is confident this effort will boost the spirit and motivation of fishermen to increase their catch, thus contributing to the government's efforts to strengthen the country's food security for the welfare of the people,” it said in a statement today.

NEKMAT also thanked the MADANI Government for the implementation of BUDI95.

BUDI95 was rolled out in phases, starting with 300,000 military and police personnel on Sept 27, before reaching over five million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients under the B40 category on Sunday.

A total of 16 million Malaysians started receiving benefits under the BUDI95 initiative today.
