JAKARTA, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has embarked on a multi-nation diplomatic tour, beginning with a stop in Osaka, Japan, before heading to New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He arrived in Osaka on Saturday morning, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, after leaving Jakarta the previous evening, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
During the stopover, Prabowo is scheduled to visit the Indonesian Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, which showcases innovation, sustainability and international cooperation at the global event attended by 158 countries.
Prabowo will next travel to New York, where he is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s address at the UN General Debate on Sept 23, speaking third after Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump.
According to Teddy, Prabowo’s participation reflects Indonesia’s determination to strengthen its diplomatic profile.
“This year’s General Assembly is an important moment for Indonesia, not only to appear at the highest level of the UN forum, but also to reaffirm Indonesia’s position as a Global South leader, consistently advocating for a fairer and more inclusive world order,” he said.
Speaking at an event marking her appointment as Foreign Ministry spokesperson last Wednesday, Yvonne Mewengkang confirmed that the Palestine issue will be among the main topics addressed by Prabowo, while other issues are still being finalised.
After his engagements in New York, Prabowo will continue to Ottawa on Sept 24 for talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, followed by a visit to The Hague on Sept 26 to meet Dutch King Willem-Alexander and caretaker Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
