NEW YORK, Sept 20 (Bernama-dpa) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is set to address the UN General Assembly by video link next week, after the United States denied him a visa to enter the country, reported German news agency dpa.
After 145 of 193 UN member states backed a motion on Friday, Abbas is due to take part online in the general debate next Thursday and a conference on the two-state solution on Monday.
The US withdrew visas for Abbas and dozens of representatives of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and said it would not issue new documentation, arguing that the PA had not sufficiently distanced itself from terrorism.
In line with a treaty with the UN, the US is as a rule obliged to issue visas to all representatives seeking to travel to UN headquarters in Manhattan.
Usually, only heads of state or government are allowed to address the general debate.
