AKPS Tightens Transit Zone Security To Prevent Illegal Entry

PUTRAJAYA, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has stepped up surveillance and optimised the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) across all international transit zones to prevent illegal entry attempts.

In a statement today, AKPS said the move followed the detection of 141 foreign nationals who tried to enter Malaysia illegally by misusing transit facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 between last Saturday and yesterday.

According to AKPS, the main tactic involved booking connecting flights to third countries to create the false impression of being genuine transit passengers, despite having no intention of continuing their journey.

Some individuals attempted to exit the transit hall under false pretences, such as claiming health issues, lost tickets, or baggage problems.

"Others were found applying for Special Passes and later misusing them by overstaying in the country," the statement added.

AKPS said 94 individuals from India, 41 from Indonesia, three from Sri Lanka, and three from Pakistan were issued Denial of Entry Notices (NPM).

The enforcement operation included detailed inspections by officers, involving document verification, travel history checks, and interviews with individuals displaying suspicious or inconsistent behaviour.

"All identified foreign nationals are now in the process of being deported on the earliest available flights," the agency said.
