TASHKENT, June 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today invited more Uzbek companies and investors to explore the Malaysian market.
He said Malaysia, which is chairing ASEAN in 2025, is ready to serve as a strategic hub for businesses looking to expand across Southeast Asia, offering access to a dynamic and rapidly growing region.
Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the Malaysian government is fully committed to fostering stronger private sector collaboration, particularly in areas of mutual benefit and strategic alignment.
Similarly, Uzbekistan’s abundant natural resources and central geographic position make it an attractive destination for Malaysian investments in sectors such as mining, agriculture, logistics, and industrial development, he added.
“Malaysia’s strength in high-value manufacturing, digital economy, and green technology presents significant opportunities for collaboration with Uzbekistan, particularly in the areas of electronics, renewable energy, and smart infrastructure,” he said in his opening remarks at the Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Forum 2025 here.
On the other hand, Fadillah said, Malaysian companies are recognising Uzbekistan’s market potential, with growing investments and interests in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and education.
“These ventures not only reinforce our bilateral economic ties but also contribute to broader regional connectivity and shared prosperity,” he added.
Fadillah noted that trade between Malaysia and Uzbekistan remains modest albeit on a positive trajectory.
“Trade rose from approximately US$58.4 million in 2020 to US$80.9 million in 2024. Malaysia’s exports, valued at US$79.9 million, included products such as palm oil, edible preparations, electronic components, and pharmaceuticals, reflecting a growing diversification of traded goods," Fadillah said. The one-day forum was organised by Malaysia-Uzbekistan Business Alliance and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.
