KOTA KINABALU, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (KPSTI) is stepping up efforts to accelerate the digitalisation of schools statewide, beginning with the distribution of laptops and the installation of Starlink satellite internet services.
Its Minister Datuk James Ratib said the Sabah State Education Department (JPNS) has proposed the provision of 45,000 laptops and the installation of Starlink services at 68 schools, with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil agreeing to support the initiative.
“The laptops will be managed by the schools, which will set up dedicated resource rooms to house them, while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will install Starlink services at schools without internet access,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting on state school digitalisation here today, James said the rollout would begin once JPNS finalises the meeting outcomes and submits them to MCMC for funding approval.
“Our priority is to ensure Sabah does not fall behind amid rapid technological advancement,” he said.
