KANGAR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The smart parking system introduced here, in mid-June has been suspended for six months with immediate effect, following public complaints over its convenience and user-friendliness.
Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli said the decision was made during the State Executive Council meeting today, after reviewing the need for improvements in various aspects of the system.
"The implementation has not met the level of comfort expected by users. As such, the suspension takes effect immediately, and no parking fees will be collected during this period until all agreed improvements are fully in place," he told a press conference after chairing the meeting at the Seri Putra Complex here.
Mohd Shukri said the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) has been instructed to engage with the parking system operator to ensure that the necessary enhancements are made in line with user feedback.
"We will review aspects such as better-designed entrance lanes, more intuitive app usage, and alternative payment options that are easier for users. If improvements can be completed sooner, the suspension may be lifted earlier," he said.
He added that the state government will also reassess current parking locations to ensure they are appropriate and better aligned with public needs
