KANGAR, July 5 (Bernama) -- Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad has contributed RM982,244.50 in corporate zakat (tithes) for 2024 to Perlis through the state Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), as part of its commitment to empowering communities through a holistic and targeted approach.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of MAIPs, graciously received a mock cheque from Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad's chief executive officer, Zafri Ab Halim, at Masjid Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail today.
Also present were MAIPs chief executive officer, Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor and the chairman of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Hawariyyun, Al-Ikhwan Rahmattullah.
In its statement, Etiqa said that at the event, implemented by non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Kebajikan Hawariyyun, the company distributed food parcels to 350 asnaf families, with 30 recipients receiving theirs during a symbolic presentation ceremony.
“The event featured a 15-kilometre charity cycling event around Kangar, featuring stopovers at three selected asnaf homes for direct aid distribution, with Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra joining the ride.
The statement added that Etiqa also fully sponsored free health and mammogram screenings in collaboration with the National Cancer Society Malaysia, as part of the broader activities held in conjunction with the zakat presentation event.
Meanwhile, in the same statement, Zafri said such initiatives reflect Etiqa’s corporate purpose of "Making the World a Better Place" by not only providing financial aid but also uplifting lives in meaningful ways.
“By combining food assistance with access to healthcare services, we hope to create a lasting impact within the community. We also hope today’s zakat distribution through MAIPs will benefit even more individuals in need,” he said.
He added that Etiqa had allocated RM80,000 for food aid, distributed to eligible recipients in Perlis identified through collaboration with Pertubuhan Kebajikan Hawariyyun and MAIPs.
