KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia started Group B action of the 2025 Asian Cup Sepak Takraw Championship doubles with a bang after defeating Nepal at the Titiwangsa Stadium here today.

Malaysia needed only 30 minutes to secure a 2-0 victory over their opponents through the partnership of Muhammad Noraizat Mohd Nordin (tekong) and Aidil Aiman Azwawi (right wing), who had no trouble winning the first set 15-7.

Making his debut in the tournament, Muhammad Redwan Hakim Muhammad (left wing) replaced Aidil Aiman in the second set to help Malaysia secure a 15-5 victory.

Also recording a victory in the first group match today was sepak takraw powerhouse Thailand, who tamed Taiwan 15-4, 15-5, and will now face Malaysia in the second Group B match tonight.

Meanwhile, national doubles coach Aswadi Abdullah hopes the positive start of the national squad in the opening match will be the best tonic ahead of the match against the main rivals.

"For me, this is actually just the first game. It's easy but in terms of play, we haven't reached the level we should be at. Maybe we're still looking for the first game.

"If we look at it now, we must improve in terms of striking and serving. Things we need to focus on. Of course, this victory is still a morale booster," he said when met.
