KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has qualifed for the quandrant semi finals of the 2025 Sepak Takraw Asian Cup after beating the Philippines 2-1 at Titiwangsa Stadium here tonight.
The second win in Group B means that the Malaysians are second and will meet Japan to determine who tops the group tomorrow.
The Malaysian quadrant of Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali, Amirul Zazwan Amir, Norfaizzul Abd Razak and Muhammad Shahalril Aiman Halim won 15-6, 16-17, 15-8.
Coach Mohammad Zulkarnain Abdul Rahman said that he expected a tough fight from the Philippines and would now focus on ensuring they beat Japan to top the group.
“We didn’t lose focus but we could see how a resurgent Philippines turned the match into an intense fight,” he said when met by reporters today.
Japan meanwhile beat China, 15-9, 15-11 today to emerge on top of Group B.
