KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes that the Tamil New Year and Vishu celebrated by the Tamil and Malayalee communities today will bring about a harmonious beginning to life, good health and abundant blessings for all who celebrate it.
Through a post on his Facebook page, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said that both celebrations have their own unique cultural and historical significance.
“Let us use this spirit of togetherness to continue strengthening the foundation of unity among us, rich with various backgrounds and cultures, in line with the Malaysian MADANI spirit,” he said.
He also extended his Tamil New Year and Vishu greetings to the Tamil and Malayalee communities in Malaysia.
The Tamil New Year is the first day of the Chittirai month (the first month of the Tamil calendar) and Vishu symbolises the Malayalee New Year and is celebrated on the first day of the month of Medam in the Malayalam calendar.
