JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Semarak Subuh programme run by the Johor government can serve as a good platform for Muslims in this state to establish a strong connection with Allah and strengthen ties with fellow Muslims.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, therefore, hoped that the programme, which takes place every Friday at dawn, could be continuously implemented throughout the state.
“When we hold the Semarak Subuh programme and combine it with Alif Satar’s #GengSubuhMacamJumaat campaign, I see it as a great start, and I hope that all Muslims, particularly in Johor, will carry out this programme continuously.
“I was moved to tears witnessing the overwhelming turnout of Muslims of all ages, men and women, during the programme. Alhamdulillah,” he told Bernama when met at his official residence in Saujana here yesterday.
Onn Hafiz also expressed hope that other districts in the state would also implement the programme in an effort to enliven mosques and surau throughout Johor.
Yesterday, Onn Hafiz said that more than 12,000 congregants attended the Semarak Subuh programme at the Sultan Iskandar Mosque, Bandar Dato’ Onn, here.
In a post on Facebook, he said that yesterday marked the first time since the mosque’s establishment that Subuh prayers had to be conducted in two sessions due to the overwhelming number of congregants.
Meanwhile, Alif took to Instagram to share his delight over the overwhelming response to the Semarak Subuh programme at the Sultan Iskandar Mosque.
“I saw on social media posts an incredible sight of over 12,000 people performing congregational prayers at the Johor mosque. Masya-Allah, the Subuh prayers had to be conducted in two sessions. Alhamdulillah. Many people tagged me on Instagram.
“In Terengganu, Sabah, Sarawak, and Melaka, everyone has come together, joining the ‘#GengSubuhMacamJumaat’ movement.
“...(through) this '#GengSubuhMacamJumaat', we truly ask from the creator...keep on praying for our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” he said.
