ALOR GAJAH, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- The construction of a water reservoir known as 'Takungan Air Pinggiran Sungai' (TAPS) Jernih is expected to contribute to the development of a new industrial area in Masjid Tanah here.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the state government is developing the 2,023-hectare MCorp Hi-Tech Park project in Masjid Tanah.
"This is also to ensure sufficient and stable water supply in the Masjid Tanah area to accommodate population growth and development around Masjid Tanah," he told reporters after visiting the TAPS Jernih construction project and the proposed site for the Jernih Water Treatment Plant (LRA) here today.
Also present were state Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer and Deputy secretary-general (Water Resources and Sewerage) of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities Datuk Razali Mohamad.
Elaborating, Ab Rauf said that TAPS Jernih can store 14 million litres of water per day, where water from the Rembau River will be pumped into the reservoir before being processed and distributed to the areas around Masjid Tanah.
He explained that through this method, the impact of floods can also be reduced during heavy rain or monsoon.
He is also confident that this project can provide sufficient water supply to the Masjid Tanah area for the next 10 to 15 years.
