UPTM Seals Three Strategic Deals To Boost Bumiputera Talent

11/07/2025 01:39 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) continues to intensify efforts to strengthen higher education and develop Bumiputera talent through three new strategic collaborations with industry players and professional institutions.

The collaborations involve the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC) and Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (YP), as well as a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

The document exchange ceremony was held during the 'Pemikiran Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi' symposium, which was officiated and witnessed by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang here today.

Also present were Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, MARA Director-General Datuk Zulfikri Osman, and the late Tun Abdullah’s son, Tan Sri Kamaluddin Abdullah.

The symbolic signing was carried out by UPTM Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Syahirah Sy Shiekh with MyPAC CEO Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan, YP Executive Vice-President (Strategy) Zatur-Rawihah Omar and MATRADE Chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

According to a statement from UPTM, the collaboration with MyPAC aims to increase the number of Bumiputera professional accountants through financial assistance and student support services, enhance graduate employability, strengthen academic-industry ties, and support sustainable talent development through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and knowledge-sharing.

Meanwhile, the partnership with YP seeks to strengthen student development in professional accountancy, in line with UPTM’s commitment to maintaining its Platinum ACCA Approved Learning Partner status — the highest level of recognition for ACCA programme delivery.

“Key areas include providing academic and professional pathways for ACCA students, financial support such as sponsorships, scholarships, and subsidies for eligible students, student development through mentoring, leadership and soft skills programmes, and exposure to industry and job placements via industry networks,” UPTM stated.

The university said the partnerships are expected to benefit students greatly and contribute to the national effort to produce more Bumiputera professionals in finance and accountancy.

Regarding the LoI with MATRADE, UPTM said it aims to conduct research on Bumiputera exporter development, focusing on planning and implementing research projects that support Bumiputera export development.

“Other key areas include collaboration in policy-making and inclusive capacity-building programmes related to trade, as well as sharing knowledge and expertise to achieve sustainable and high-impact outcomes for the national economy,” the statement added.

During the same event, UPTM also presented a token of appreciation to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for enabling 100 per cent smart classroom implementation on campus.

The symposium, held in honour of the leadership of the late Tun Abdullah, was attended by over 500 participants and featured three main forums discussing leadership, policy, administrative style, and Malaysia’s image during the tenure of the Fifth Prime Minister.
