Maxis donates digital devices to B40 women in Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Telecommunications service provider Maxis has donated computers and laptops to several B40 communities in Sarawak provided through Women And Family Department Of Sarawak (JWKS) in an effort to assist in the digitisation of the community.

East Malaysia Maxis region head T.  Bhaarathyraja said through the donation, selected recipients will be allowed to join the eKelas Usahawan and Maxis’ digital marketing programme that would equip women entrepreneurs with the basic digital marketing.

Those involved include the Sarawak Single Mothers Association, Kuching and Samarahan Division Carnation Club, Sarawak Women for Women Society and the Federation of the Sarawak Women's Grouping.

“The ability to leverage technology is important, especially in this post-pandemic environment, as not every family can afford to own a device.

“Maxis is proud to channel our contribution in enabling more communities to connect and participate in programmes such as our eKelas Usahawan,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, JWKS director Norita Bawi said she was always supportive of any effort by any group that provided a digital ecosystem for women to participate so that women and their families gain skills and access to suitable devices.

"This is important so that women in this state can contribute actively in development driven by digital economy,” she said.

The donation is also part of Maxis' commitment to the #MYBAIKHATI campaign, which saw Maxis distributed over 420 computers and laptops to secondary schools and the Malaysian Family Digital Economy Center (PEDi) nationwide.
