KUCHING, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- One flood relief centre in Sarawak was closed this afternoon, bringing the number of active relief centres in the state to nine.
The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the active relief centres involved areas in Serian, Sibu, Bintulu and Sebauh.
As of 4 pm today, the number of flood victims had also declined to 1,630 people from 506 families compared with 1,773 people from 560 families this morning.
“Among the relief centres housing the highest number of victims are SK Tanah Puteh in Serian with 448 people from 131 families; Serian Community Hall (311 people from 91 families) and Dewan Suarah Bintulu (262 people from 84 families).
“Meanwhile, Dewan Sri Kemena at SMK Sebauh is housing 189 people from 57 families,” according to the statement.
The flood disaster in Sarawak this time began on Dec 31, when several areas around Kuching city were hit by floods following continuous heavy rain.
