SUBANG JAYA, Feb 21 -- The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) encourages more private production companies to jointly create programmes to educate the public in the prudent use of social media.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said the companies could work together with agencies under the ministry such as CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
"KKMM will always support such programmes because if misused, social media will plunge the country into confusion with the spread of slander," he said when launching the 'Jari Neraka' reality programme published by Rentak Sehati Sdn Bhd.
Also present were CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab and Malaysian Artistes Association president Zed Zaidi.
Meanwhile, Rentak Sehati production manager Ahmad Qusairy Faudzi said 'Jari Neraka' was a reality programme to educate and teach netizens about social media abuse.
"In these times, criticism, slander, and speculation have become normal among us, which may seem harmless but the target can suffer depression and stress that could be deadly, that's why we do not want this to happen," he said.
The 'Jari Neraka' programme will be broadcast on the company's YouTube channel starting today.
