JOHOR BAHRU, April 5 (Bernama) -- The internet facilities at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) can be utilised by those involved in the Work From Home (WFH) policy, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the ministry would coordinate all NADI centres in major cities involved in the policy's implementation to ensure they were accessible to the local community and civil servants affected.
"Currently, many NADI centres are already being used for online meetings by bodies and agencies such as Amanah Ikhtiar and others, so I do not see any obstacles in expanding NADI's use for WFH purposes," he told reporters after attending the appointment ceremony for NADI Advisory Panel chairmen for Johor here today.
The government recently announced the implementation of the WFH policy starting April 15, specifically for civil servants and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) for three days a week.
The move aims, among others, to reduce energy consumption following the global energy crisis sparked by the West Asia conflict.
However, Fahmi said the centres would operate as usual according to office hours.
Earlier in his speech, Fahmi said NADI had the potential to serve as a support system for those involved in WFH to carry out their work smoothly.
He said the government, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), spent more than RM350 million annually to operate 1,098 NADI centres nationwide.
According to him, Sarawak recorded the highest number with 156 NADI centres, followed by 132 in Sabah and 101 in Johor.
In this regard, he urged all parties, especially managers, assistant managers and chairmen of NADI Advisory Panels, to continue working together to enhance various beneficial programmes for the local community.
