TFC offers Nafuzi new contract as head coach

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 6  -- Terengganu Football Club (TFC) Sdn Bhd has decided to offer head coach Nafuzi Zain a new contract for the next season.

The matter was decided during the TFC Sdn Bhd board of directors’ meeting chaired by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at Seri Iman today.

TFC Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ab Rasid Jusoh said the decision to retain Nafuzi as the Turtles’ head coach next season was based on several factors, including the 2022 preparation plan completed earlier by the management together with the 2021 season coaching staff.

"The decision to retain Nafuzi was agreed by the board of directors after taking many aspects into consideration, including the list of players retained and those who will be released in the upcoming Malaysia League (M-League) season.

"It is also based on the high commitment shown by the young coach while managing the team previously,” he said in a statement today.

Ab Rasid said, however, they were still waiting to hear from Nafuzi, who they hope will lead the Turtles to greater success in the M-League next season.

"We are impressed with the commitment he (Nafuzi) has shown all this while and we hope it will lead to the level of achievements the club has set for the 2022 season,” he added.

Nafuzi, who is from Kelantan, began his career with the Turtles in 2018 as assistant coach before taking over as interim head coach in 2019 after head coach Irfan Bakti resigned abruptly following problems with the team’s performance.

Under Nafuzi, the Turtles finished fourth in the Super League and were Malaysia Cup semi-finalists for the 2021 season.
