Potential for Masjid Tanah as mega project hub

ALOR GAJAH, April 2  -- The sub-district of Masjid Tanah is seen as a suitable location for mega projects if the Cabinet agrees with the proposal of the Melaka government to create a new district in the area.

Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the new district would have the potential to be successful because it has ample land to be developed for tourism, industries, agriculture as well as a port.

‘’The state government has agreed to approve a proposal to set up a full district involving the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency during its executive council meeting on Aug 5, 2020.

‘’To date, several high impact projects are either being planned or have been implemented in the area,’’ he told reporters after opening the Masjid Tanah Operations Office, here, today.

Among the projects, he said are the West Coast Industrial Corridor, Lembah Tinggi Development Area, Tanjung Tuan Tourism Development Project and the Coastal Highway Project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RM-12) which will pass through the Kuala Linggi - Masjid Tanah area.

In addition, he said the Third National Physical Development Plan (RFN3) had also raised the Kuala Linggi area into a catalyst centre mainly focusing on maritime terminal activities and tourist attractions to give a major boost to the economic and social transformation of the local community.

‘’Commercial networks and strong economic growth in the Masjid Tanah area will also be enhanced especially in promoting products belonging to entrepreneurs in the district.

‘’The development will be faster and more orderly when the Masjid Tanah Operation Office starts to operate which will surely attract clients and investment potentials from inside and outside Melaka,’’ he said.

This, he said was in-line with the main objective of setting up the Masjid Tanah district, namely, to provide efficient service and development facilities for the local community and expedite planned developments, especially mega projects.

‘’This will include balancing the development of the Masjid Tanah District to be in-line with the developments in other areas in Melaka and enlivening the developments of the Melaka-Negeri Sembilan border areas with Kuala Linggi and Port Dickson,’’ he added.
