TANJUNG MALIM, Aug 18 -- Entering the fourth day of the Slim state by-election campaign, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Zaidi Aziz has so far covered more than 60 per cent of the areas in the constituency.
Mohd Zaidi said he was confident to cover all the areas by tomorrow and planned to carry out campaign three times in each area until Aug 28 to meet as many more voters as possible.
"Today’s campaign focuses on the market and eatery areas. This afternoon, I will do house-to-house campaign in Kampung Klah Baru before going to the old town of Slim which I expect to cover 90 per cent of the areas," he told reporters here today.
The Slim state by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib from BN, due to a heart attack on July 15.
The Aug 29 by-election will witness a three-cornered fight between Mohd Zaidi and two Independent candidates Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and S. Santharasekaran.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zaidi explained that the government is working to overcome the flood problem involving five villages here.
He said the matter had previously been brought to the District Action Committee Meeting and the Perak state legislative assembly as well as the federal government.
Apart from that, Mohd Zaidi said efforts to overcome the settlement problem for the second generation of Felda settlers and traditional villagers, which were among the struggles of the late Mohd Khusairi, would be continued by him.
