Teh Hong Piow, Lim Kok Wing bag Brandlaureate Lifetime Achievement Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 -- Public Bank founder Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology founder Prof Tan Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing were among those awarded the BrandLaureate Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award tonight.

Teh bagged the award for the Greatest Banking Icon of The Decade while Lim won in the Man of The Decade category at the BrandLaureate Brand Icon Leadership Awards 2019.

Meanwhile, The Melium Group founder Datuk Seri Dr Farah Khan clinched the BrandLaureate Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award for The Woman of The Decade category while Top Glove founder Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai received the Master Brand Founder of The Decade category.  

Other notable awards for the night included The BrandLaureate Book of World Records which was presented to Tan Sri Dr M. Mahadevan, the first psychiatrist in Malaysia and the Father of Psychiatry in the country. 

Another Book of World Records was awarded to the first woman to become Malaysia's deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Datuk Dr Wan Ismail.

During his opening speech, The BrandLaureate world president Dr KK Johan highlighted the importance of the awards’ theme, "To be known", considering brands must be promoted and made known to consumers so that they are well-positioned in the consumers’ minds, and not their competitors. 

”Make yourself be known. There is nothing wrong with shouting to the world about your own greatness and achievements, be it big or small.

"As we move into a new decade, in 2020 and beyond, I encourage brands to stay strong, bold, and have the right mindset to achieve even greater success," he said.

Johan said The BrandLaureate is proud to have over 500 international recipients and 1,500 international companies which have received the awards. 

In 2017, it launched its first international awards in Ho Chi Minh City, followed by Singapore in 2018, and China and Singapore in 2019. 

"Today, we have 10 presidents in 10 countries, and the following year, 2020, we will continue to add to new countries in our list. 

"We are setting up The BrandLaureate regional branding hub in Australia and our headquarters in Geneva. In October 2020, we will be presenting The BrandLaureate Brand Icon Leadership Award in Vienna, Austria, at the Imperial Palace," he added.
