Sarawak allocates RM16 mil for hydrogen project

08/11/2019 02:52 PM

KUCHING, Nov 8-- Sarawak has set aside an allocation of RM16 million for the operation and construction of hydrogen refuelling stations and production plants, said Transport Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil today.

The allocation will also be used for research and development.

The number of stations and plants to be built will be dependent on a comprehensive study into future demand, the minister said, in response to a question from Violet Yong (PH-Pending) during the state legislative assembly sitting here.

Giving an assurance that all safety precautions and standard operating procedures had been put in place to ensure the fuel was not only safe to use and sustainable but was also environmentally-friendly, Dr Jerip added that hydrogen technology is a scientific technology that is widely used in Germany, Canada, China, the United States, England and Scotland, among others.

Meanwhile, on the contamination of liquid hydrogen that occurred at the state's first production plant and refuelling station in September, he said the incident had been completely addressed by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Linde EOX Sdn Bhd, the technology administrator of trial runs undertaken at the facility.

He said the contamination occurred following a change in pressure at the plant.
