DPM Ahmad Zahid Hails BUDI95 Targeted Subsidy As Principled Action For The People

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on the targeted subsidy for RON95 petrol through the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative.

He described the decision as a principled action that demonstrates deep concern for the people's welfare.

"As part of the nation's leadership, I see this decision as a principled move, full of concern for the people's well-being.

"Insya-Allah, we will continue to support the government's efforts for a more just, sustainable and inclusive Malaysia," he said in his Facebook post.

Under the BUDI95 initiative, the price of RON95 petrol for Malaysian citizens will be reduced from RM2.05 per litre to RM1.99 per litre, effective Sept 30.

Furthermore, the subsidised price is only applicable to Malaysian citizens. Non-citizens and large corporate entities will pay the unsubsidised market price of approximately RM2.60 per litre.

Meanwhile, in a special interview with Bernama in Putrajaya, Ahmad Zahid said that the BUDI95 initiative demonstrates the government's clear commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens by offering subsidised RON95 fuel well below the market rate.

He noted that compared to neighbouring countries, Malaysia continues to offer some of the lowest fuel prices in the region.

“While Brunei’s prices are low due to its oil-producing status and small population, Singapore’s fuel prices exceed RM9 per litre. This targeted subsidy directly benefits Malaysian citizens across all segments of society,” he said.

He added that the government has set a monthly eligibility of 300 litres per private vehicle under BUDI95, exceeding the current average monthly consumption of approximately 250 litres.

“The 300-litre limit accommodates those with longer commutes. Additionally, this cap does not apply to e-hailing drivers, who may exceed the limit upon registering under the specified category,” he explained.
