KUCHING, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Kuching City FC moved ahead of Selangor FC in the Super League competition after securing a narrow 1-0 victory at the State Stadium this afternoon.
The only goal of the match was scored by Ramdhan Saifullah in the 68th minute from a free-kick that beat Selangor goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz, gifting a valuable win to the home squad.
The win sees Kuching City who have played four matches, collect seven points to overtake Selangor in the Super League table, who have six points after playing five matches.
In the first half, the squad coached by Aidil Sharin Sahak almost faced a nightmare of playing with only 10 players after Danial Amier was shown a red card in the 38th minute for a foul on Alvin Fortes.
The incident caused a commotion on the field, but after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), the referee Tuan Mohd Yaasin Tuan Mohd Hanafiah canceled the red card and decided to give him a yellow card.
The hard field surface due to the scorching afternoon heat also made ball movement difficult, forcing both teams to adapt their playing styles to the ground condition.
Selangor tested the opponent's defence more in the second half, but the agility of the home team's goalkeeper, Haziq Nadzli, managed to deny every attempt by the visitors.
The 1-0 result in favour of Kuching City remained until the final whistle.
