State Gov't Plans To Introduce Subsidy For PTPTN, Yayasan Sabah Loan Repayments - Hajiji

PENAMPANG, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government plans to introduce a subsidy policy to help students repay their National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Yayasan Sabah loans, easing their financial burden.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the policy, which is expected to benefit over 100,000 students, will soon be presented to the Sabah State Cabinet for review, particularly regarding the required financial allocation.

“I am confident that this policy is feasible for implementation, given the state’s future financial outlook. It reflects our commitment to supporting more Sabah children and ensuring they have access to education,” he said after officiating the Sabah Student Convention here today.

Also present were Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and over 100 students from across Sabah.

Hajiji highlighted that since 2021, the state government has allocated over RM1.3 billion for education, marking the largest investment in Sabah’s history. This demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to the younger generation.

He also emphasised that the state government places great importance on education and human capital development, firmly believing that the youth represent the future of Sabah.

“This year, the government has allocated RM136 million in scholarships, benefiting thousands of students at various educational levels. In addition, over 14 initiatives have been introduced, including flight subsidies and SENTOSA assistance to support students pursuing further education,” he added.
